Belize 2018 Update

A New Adventure!  Maya Field Workshops in Belize
MARCH 10 - 17 , 2018

Our first Maya Field Workshop of 2018 takes us to Belize for the first time.
We will examine in-depth the archaeology and history of the southeast Maya lowlands, especially the sites of Caracol, Naranjo and their troubled histories with the “Snake Kingdom” (Dzibanche/Calakmul) in the 7
th and 8th centuries. We will explore major sites of the Classic period, some seldom visited by tourists, and discuss the very latest finds. The MFW experience isn't just about visiting ruins – it’s about understanding the very latest insights about the ancient Maya in their own context, fleshing out history and archaeology in a way no classroom or lecture hall can provide. Participants will learn to decode the intricate art and writing of the ancient Maya, opening a new and exciting world of learning and discovery.

A True Jungle Experience

Camping in the Peten!
Carlos Vivar, a native of Uaxactun, Guatemala, has become a dear friend to Maya Field Workshops.  Over the years he has shared his insights into local culture and the natural world of the Maya. Because Naranjo is a challenging destination, he has graciously offered to set up a jungle camp and meals for us for two nights. We will have the opportunity to visit the archeological site as well as experience the jungle up close and personal. We are in good hands!

Supporting Boundary End Center
David and I continue to work to support Boundary End Center, a 501c3 non profit that was founded by our dad, George E. Stuart.  His vision was to provide a gathering place for scholars of Ancient America, publish scholarly work, and support research projects and archives.  Starting next year you will receive a tax deductiion for part of your registration fees.  We are still working out the details but will have plans firmly in place for 2018.  So go ahead and sign up and we will have a donation receipt for you before tax time.  Clink on the Boundary End link below to find out more about what we do.  Contact me for any questions and I'll be happy to try to answer them!  Thank you,  Ann Stuart
