Mexico City, Teotihuacan, Cholula, Templo Mayor, Xochimilco, Tula

December 8 - 16, 2018!

The December 2018 MFW will be our first experience exploring the art and archaeology of central Mexico. Over the course of six days we will take a detailed look at the ancient cultures the Valley of Mexico and adjacent regions, focusing on the latest discoveries and research at Teotihuacan, Tula, Tezcotzingo, Cholula, Cacaxtla and Tenochtitlan. A central theme will be the relationship of the ancient Maya to these highland places and cultures over the course 1000 years. In ancient Mexico-Tenochtitlan -- present day Mexico City -- we will walk among the ruins of the Aztec capital, and delve into the lasting thinking and insights into imperial Aztec art and iconography. 2018 is on the verge of the 500-year anniversary of Hernan Cortes’s arrival in Mexico -- a perfect time to look deeply at the cultural development of ancient Mesoamerica and to trace the beautiful landscape of the Conquest.
